One of the most enjoyable chores that I have set myself here at The Oaks, which will be a tour and commentary for you, is to thin the fallen timber along the driveway.
What I can't show you or give you is the experience of the smell, the field vibrations like there is a charge in everything, the heat, the atmosphere, the flies.
I will try and describe as best I can when the effect is not perceptible to the camera. An example is when you hit a long wire fence with a stick and that electric zap sound that you can't properly explain in words but know it when you hear it.
The biggest buzz is the mosquitoes.
If you are not prepared you can't escape them. I found that without the proper clothing and repellent I couldn't be outside. The evening walk from about dusk to the early hours at night are impossible . I am already fairly scarred from being unprepared.
Why clearing the tree limbs is so much fun is the magical way in which an area that seems to be empty of anything, once you start picking up a length of tree limb, all of a sudden that limb breeds numerous other tree limbs that didn't seem to be there before.
20 minutes to half an hour later, you’ve gathered a pile from what seemed like nothing. It doesn’t seem to have been done for a long time, or ever maybe?
The other thing l enjoyed was when I overheard a boy and his father talking about what they had found in the bush. What they were observing was the result of about 2 hours of my morning walk from about 6 till 8 am.
Again I can explain what I can see and what the camera is showing you but I can't show you what you want to see. I can do so much but the final result is up to you .
We try setting the fallen stumps up on top of each other to create the eyes and faces of creatures and set them on their bases. I would love to make them into a walking path and organic sculpture.
All sculpture ideas are organic: this will be an outdoor sculpture walk with seats carved into trunks of fallen trees and an endless variety of useable ideas material in the form of tree limbs and sticks.
I can guarantee it'll generate some art ideas.
LET’S PLAY
The pictures of the sky are perfect.
